The story of FENNEN products begins with a storm

Robust oak planks with knotholes, notches and splits, with discolouration and other signs of a long life – these are the characteristic features of front door models with solid oak planks on the outside. The timber for these unique pieces has not been felled – it is a gift from nature.

In early summer 2017, a devastating storm swept through Lower Saxony and uprooted numerous huge farm oaks in the idyllic farming community of ‘Einen’. Many of these hundred-year-old giants were stored in the neighbouring sawmill of the front door manufacturer and in a chat with the friendly operator it quickly became clear: this is the perfect timber for exceptional front doors. The FENNEN ‘Storm Oak’ edition was born.

Grown together and marked by nature – this is how each individual tree tells its very own story. The individual planks that are sawn from them carry on this story. At the front door factory, they are personally hand-picked, trimmed and assembled individually for each door by experienced master carpenters.

Powerful and authentic

The result is front doors with a powerful and authentic look, which offer a counterpoint in the entrance area, especially to modern architecture with its simple and rather cool straight lines. The main focus is on the use of natural materials, which may also change through natural processes or have already passed though this stage. Because the development of further design ideas continues.

Design with maximum flexibility

The special construction of our FENNEN front doors also makes them unique: with two expert actions, the solid curtain shell on the outside can be replaced with a new one. The actual door with all functions remains untouched by this, because it lies safely behind the outer design shell. And it only takes a few minutes, without noise, without dirt, time and again, because the portfolio of extraordinary designer curtain shells is steadily growing.

FENNEN design of the fine kind

Hand craft par excellence distinguishes the popular Joran and Robur models. The angular solid oak strips are also made from storm oak. They give the door a unique hand-crafted touch – a flattering contrast to the modern and factual straight lines of the layout – a touch of retro included.

FENNEN Shou Sugi Ban

The third FENNEN design family is finished by fire: front doors with traditional Shou Sugi Ban finish. Controlled flaming of the timbers gives rise to this unique, almost fossil character. The process follows a centuries-old Japanese tradition and at the same time forms a natural protective mantle.

FENNEN design in the changing seasons

That is by no means absurd. Just as nature evolves in the course of the seasons or the interior design is subject to a creative change through new nuances and ideas, a real FENNEN front door can also develop the entrance area with the residents or simply show a different face at any time of the year. A FENNEN can adapt; it does not need to.
